Later, to celebrate Phoebus’s promotion, Madame Gondelaurier throws a ball. Now captivated by Esmeralda, Phoebus requests that she accompany him and provides her with a beautiful gown. Learning from a spy that Phoebus has spirited Esmeralda away, Clopin believes she has been kidnapped and with a group of supporters, breaks into the ball.
